This morning Caleb and Daisy were sitting at the kitchen table eating raisins and drinking their "Good Morning Coffee". Chris ran down to the basement to throw a load of laundry in the wash and Daisy ran to the top of the stairs and called after him, "Daddy? Is today a work day?"
Chris didn't hear, but Caleb answered, "No, Daisy! It's not a work day. It's the weekend. Daddy gets to stay home with us all day!"
And they were both so happy about it.
Lily and I went grocery shopping in the morning while Chris and the big kids ran up to the high school track. When Lily and I got back, they went outside to ride bikes. I looked out to check on them, and Daisy yelled, "Mommy! I ridin' the balance bike!"
And she was!
Kind of.
It will take some practice, but up til now she's refused to even try.
Then our friends Caleb and Hannah came over. Then our friends Landon and baby Kate from up the street came down. Then Chris' friend Brandon drove by. And suddenly, it was a party in the driveway with lots of people we love, and it was just wonderful.
We tried to delay it as long as we could, but lunch time and nap time eventually rolled around, and we pulled two very sweaty children and one very tired baby back in the house.
Only Lily refused to nap, as usual.
I think it was because she wanted to help Daddy with his schoolwork.
When the big kids woke up, I told them they could wear their dress-up costumes. Caleb chose Batman. Then he changed his mind to Superman. Then he realized that Daisy was going to be Wonder Woman, and he had a fit. Then (after he calmed down and apologized to me for being ridiculous) he decided Superman was fine. Then we went outside.
Then I asked to see their best superhero faces.
This is what I got.
(They both stood that way with no direction from me at all. It was adorable.)
I'm pretty sure this is the cutest thing ever.
And then she started to pester him. I love the thought of Superman being henpecked by Wonder Woman!
Our friend Jen is running the Chicago Marathon next week with Team World Vision. She's a bit short of her fundraising goal, so she held a lemonade stand on the corner. (You can donate to help provide clean water in Africa - and help Jen meet her goal - here.) Of course our super heroes had to pay a visit!
Wonder Woman purchased her cup, just like the rest of us mortals.
And yes, Superman still drinks from a (color coordinated) sippy cup. We've decided to give those up tomorrow.
The lemonade stand attracted quite a crowd of friends and neighbors, and it was a lot of fun. But I think it was a bit much for Superman. As we headed home, he told Chris, "I don't want to go back there. There are too many people there!" Poor kid. At least he has Wonder Woman to protect him!
