April 1

The Botanical Garden had its big spring opening day today, the weather was lovely, and our calendar was empty. It's a rare occurrence, so we headed out for some family fun!

The kids knew their two priorities were feeding the fish and visiting the Children's Garden, so we made a beeline for the koi fish at the Japanese Garden first.

Not gonna lie: the Eli/fish situation made me nervous more than once. That kid takes more risks than his siblings do!

We visited the spot where I broke my leg, almost two years ago. Surprisingly, Chris said he had never visited the scene of the incident! It really is a lovely spot.

Sheeeeeeep!

The kids all clambered up into this wagon, and then asked that I take their picture.

My pleasure!

This will be the first season that Eli will be really able to navigate the Children's Garden on his own, which means it will be twice as much work for me to take the kids there. Since Chris was with us, though, he was able to run and explore.

He loved the suspension bridge!

Lily and Daisy chose to do the craft (a Toad Abode!) while the boys played.

Sweet girl.

At the entrance were several volunteers from the World Bird Sanctuary, with real birds! Caleb was fascinated on our way in, and on our way out he requested this photo with an owl.
And then it was time to go home! We had such fun, though, and I'm really looking forward to another season at the Garden!
