June 14

After several busy days in a row, we decided to stay home from church today to rest and get things done. It was a brilliant idea, because it allowed this to happen:
It poured rain for most of the morning, which made me especially glad that we didn't need to leave the house. I decided to enjoy my breakfast frittata and coffee on the front porch, and the kiddos eagerly joined me. It didn't take long before Lily, still dressed in her pajamas, was dancing in the rain in the driveway. Caleb and Daisy soon followed (though Caleb insisted upon an umbrella), and eventually all three children were soaked. Caleb and Daisy ended up changing into swimsuits to continue the water play. It was lovely.

They like to pretend they're scientists who turn the puddle different colors with sidewalk chalk.

Lily was done being cold and wet, though, so she snuggled up with a towel and a pillow. She is such a funny girl!

Back inside, Eli spent a lot of time playing on his play mat.

He kicks and wiggles and intentionally reaches for and plays with the plush octopus. It's pretty cute.

Hey Big Guy!

Then Eli joined me for some marathon errand-running, and we spent 3 hours going to various stores for groceries and whatnot. The boy was a champ, and napped for a good portion of it. Now the kids are asleep, Chris is at a movie with the guys from our small group, and Eli, who refused to cooperate, is asleep on my back. Someday Eli will sleep on his own in the evenings. That day is just not today.
