December 16

Eli had a rough night last night.
Really rough.
Normally he sleeps in his crib until 10 or 10:30, and when he wakes for a feeding I bring him into my bed for the night. Last night, he was done at 9:30. Chris held him until 10, hoping he might go back to sleep, but he didn't. From 10 until 11:30 or 12, I tried desperately to help Eli go back to sleep. He was inconsolable. Chris tried for a while, to no use. Sometime around midnight, Chris got out of bed and took Eli into his room, and rocked him in the big comfy chair. They both got some sleep there, and at 2:30 Chris brought Eli back to me. Then he cried for another hour, until he finally fell asleep. That lasted until 5, and then he was up for the day.

After a night like that, I was determined that it was a pajamas-at-home kind of day. But right after we got Caleb on the bus, Daisy began begging to see our friends Gussie and Michael and Catherine and Mary and Edie. She wanted to play with them so desperately, and she didn't even know that Amber and I had tentatively discussed getting together today. So against my better judgment, we headed to the Botanical Garden as soon as Eli woke up from his nap.

It was just the right thing to do. It was sunny and nearly 60 degrees, Daisy was so happy to run and play with Michael, Lily said "Baby Edie" was the best part of her day, and Eli was happy to be out in the sunshine with big kids to entertain him. Plus, my dad was working, so Daisy even got to ride on his golf cart!

See? Sunshine and happy baby.

Caleb was at school and Amber and I each had a baby on our backs, but we still maxed out the sheep. Note to the Garden: please get more sheep. As soon as Edie and Eli are big enough to ride them, we will need them!

Happy boy!

Another great part of seeing Amber was that she loaned me a beautiful new wrap for the next few weeks. It is hand woven, and so much nicer than any of the wraps I own. Also, the colors are stunning!
Even Eli recognizes that his ride has been upgraded.

Sadly, the sunshine and warmth won't last, but we'll be back at the Garden tomorrow night for our favorite part of the season: the Garden Glow!
