March 31

It was a busy day - I didn't even touch the camera until 6:30 this evening.

It was super-warm today, and it's been a while since I've posted Naked Baby pictures.

So I give you:
Nearly Naked Baby with Book.

March 30

I realized today that Caleb has never been introduced to grass before.
Why wait any longer?

He definitely was intrigued.

(Picture me, lying on my back in the soggy grass to get this photo. I know. I'm nuts.)

March 29

Scene: Kitchen, morning

Caleb is sitting on his blanket playing with toys, while Carrie makes herself some breakfast. Carrie notices that Caleb has opened one of his books all by himself and is flipping through the pages.

Carrie: Caleb! Are you reading your book? You are such a big boy!

Caleb: Booh

Carrie, shocked that Caleb has said something that sounds like book, scrambles to grab her camera to photograph what could be his first word. By the time she has her camera ready, Caleb has moved on to another toy.

Carrie: Caleb, can you show me your book?

Caleb drops the toy he was playing with and picks up one, then another book.

I think it counts, don't you? He clearly knows what "book" means.
First word?

FIRST WORD!!!!

Later, we went to the park with Grandma and Ryan.

Ryan dotes on Caleb.
I love it.
Caleb loves Ryan.

Caleb also loves swinging.
And Mommy.

March 28

Our poor little bug still isn't feeling well. He has a deep, croupy cough that's especially bad when he wakes up. I'm hoping he gets better soon, but I feel so blessed that Caleb is such a sweet baby, even when he's sick.

Here he is before church this morning. This photo just makes me laugh - it reminds me of an old man with a cigar.
(note: we do not give our baby cigars. Though if we had, that might explain the cough.)

And here's just a sweet photo.
I love my little man!

March 27

Today, Caleb met the Easter Bunny.

It was a cold, blustery day, and poor Caleb isn't feeling well. We decided to chance the outdoor festival, though, because it sounded awesome.

No line for Easter Bunny.
Friendly, helpful people.
Complimentary photo of Caleb with said bunny.
Totally worth it.
Right?

When it was our turn to visit with the bunny, the line-chaperone (is that a term? I just coined it.) took one look at Caleb and said, "If he's going to cry, you can go up there with him."
I replied, "Cry? No way. My kid is tough."
Chris approached the bunny, plopped Caleb in his arms, and stepped back.

This is what happened next:

Yeah. My kid is a champ.

My only regret? I left Caleb's Easter Bunny ears at home.

March 26

Apparently, Chris has been teaching Caleb new tricks when I'm not around.

Look at the expression on Caleb's face. He knows Mommy wouldn't approve of what he's doing. The real question is: how does the baby know this, but Daddy doesn't?

I don't think Chris fully understands all of the trouble he's unleashed by showing Caleb what he can do when I'm not watching.

Also, Caleb got some sweet new kicks today. These are quite practical, and cute, too!

(I think it's supposed to be a monster. I'm calling it a pirate monster, because it clearly has an eyepatch.)

March 25

Yesterday, Caleb fell asleep in the car on the way home from the pool. He slept (in his carseat) until 10:00, so Chris didn't get a chance to play with Caleb at all that day.

He definitely made up for it today.

Our baby is the Italian Stallion.
He loves playing with Daddy!

The big green ball hasn't gotten boring for him yet!

And he loves his latest toy - a ball-popper that he got for Christmas. He wasn't old enough for it then, so it's been packed away until now. The more he plays with it, the more he loves it!

Please note that in all of the pictures where he's not looking at me, he's gazing adoringly at Daddy. Daddy is definitely WAY cooler than I am. And I'm OK with that.

March 24

It has become quite apparent to me that I am raising an opinionated child.

He has no problem letting me know which activities he likes:

(swinging)

and which activites he dislikes:

(posing in front of flowers and some crazy alien-like branch thing)

I am definitely that obnoxious mom. Look how annoyed he is! Unfortunately, I know I'll only get worse.

Here, he is obviously thinking, "Geeze, Mom! Don't you know I'm a boy and not a girl? I hate these stupid flowers!"

Like mother, like son, eh? I suppose I've earned this child who knows what he wants.

March 23

Today was beautiful - 70 and sunny - so we soaked up every possible moment of it.

Today, Caleb got to:
swing
ride in the stroller for a 4-mile run with Mommy
have a picnic with Grandma, Grandpa, Sara and Cooper
swing again
blow bubbles outside
ride in the stroller for a 3-mile run with Daddy

He loved it!

By the end of the day, I learned two things.
1. Even babies smell not-so-fresh after a whole day outside.
2. Caleb is not a hat man. I tried at least 6 different times to put a hat on him. Each time, he immediately pulled off the hat and smiled up at me sweetly. Next time, I may resort to duct tape.

March 22

Today may have been "Do Nothing Monday", but somehow we ended up doing lots of stuff.
In between all of our errands, Caleb was pretty cute.
In fact, he was so cute that now I can't choose which photo to post.

So today is officially "Multiple Photo Monday".

This is how Caleb reads one of his favorite books:

Why is it his fave? Because it's about him!

By the end, he was too exhausted to continue reading.
It was a busy day.

March 21

Today we visited our local Rural King.
Seriously. We have a new store called Rural King. It's like Wal-Mart and Home Depot, rolled together in a crusty, free-popcorn providing, camouflaged sack. Apparently it's a big deal elsewhere, and among rural folk, because the parking lot was packed.

Since we are obviously not rural folk, I'm sure you're wondering what drew us to the Rural King.

Chicks, man.

It was pretty awesome.

Rural King, you have 3 new fans.

March 20

Caleb was a champ all day, despite sleeping poorly at the hotel (stupid pack and play).
He was a champ at breakfast.
He was a champ at the funeral.
He was a champ, despite limited naps.
He was a champ for the whole drive home.

When we finally made it home, he got to roll around in his room to burn off some energy.

And that's when we first got the hint that tonight might not be a good night, either.

Bedtime? Not going so well.

On a positive note, we returned home to find our first daffodil of the season!

Take that, Kansas City snow!

March 19 (late)

We just returned from a quick trip to Kansas City, so I wasn't able to post yesterday's photo. I did, however, take copius amounts of photos, despite being out of town. I have tons of great pictures of family members, but I'm so worn out that you'll just get one today. Sorry.

This is in front of the door to the balcony in our hotel room. We stayed at the InterContinental on the Plaza - lovely hotel, but NOT family friendly. It was a bad experience for poor Caleb, and we left quite disappointed in their customer service.

However, this was before the crib-that's not a crib but is really a pack and play-that goes away and then shows up again-that we have to set up in the dark-because they didn't set it up for us-then didn't give us a crib sheet-for it and thought we could use a king size flat-sheet for a crib sheet debacle.

This was when we - and Caleb - were still happy. Before we tried to sleep. It was a great day until then.

March 18

Today I became that mom that I never wanted to be.

What did I do?
I impulsively purchased a junky toy for my child at the grocery store.

To be fair, it was a really cool big rubber ball, we don't have any balls like it, and it was only $1.
And my child LOVES it.
I swear he's trying so hard to say "ball".

Because he can't yet actually say words, I've used my mommy-sense to infer what he was thinking in these photos.
"Do you see my ball? Isn't it cool? Do you see my ball? It's amazing! This is my ball! I love my ball!"

"Ball. Ball.Ball.Ball.Ball.Ball."

March 17

I learned something new today.

Caleb?
Does not like St. Patrick's Day.

Maybe because he can't partake in the green beer and corned beef?

Or maybe it was the giant cow...

or the Caleb-sized leprechaun?

His buddy Cooper didn't mind, but Caleb was not pleased.
Maybe next year will be better.

Because I'm Neurotic

Somehow I stumbled across this cat blog.

It is literally a blog "written" by a cat.

It's not even a funny or interesting cat blog. It's just a cat blog. Why am I bringing it up? The cat has more followers than me.

Now, seriously. The stupid cat beats this?
(Yes. That is my baby communicating with and playing with a Diaper Champ.)

Or this?

Please don't let the cat beat my baby?

Please?

March 16

It was a busy, busy, busy day for us today!

Today, Caleb:
Went out to breakfast
Accompanied Aunt Emily to a doctor appointment (he tried so hard to stay awake, but the dark room and his cozy sling meant that he napped instead of being the supportive nephew he wanted to be)
Went out to lunch (he loves Amber - and deep-dish pizza - but again, naptime called!)
Played, played, played
Napped until, surprise (!)

Aunt Sally came over for dinner!

I'm not sure if Caleb is trying to kiss Sally or eat her face. Either way, it's both funny and cute.

March 15

Monday seems to have become Library Day at our house.
Each Monday, Caleb and I visit the library and choose 5 new board books for him to read.

I use the term "read" very loosely.
(this is why antibacterial wipes are so important - each book gets a good wipedown first!)

(Does anyone else remember that Garfield poster about learning through osmosis?
Caleb and Garfield - they think alike.)

Also, we used the time change to shift Caleb's bedtime. Now he goes to bed at 8:00 instead of 7:00. That means we get to have family dinners together before bedtime! So far, it seems to be going well (He slept ALL NIGHT last night! From 8pm to 6:30 am! MY baby! He did that!).

Hopefully one of the first of many!

March 14

Caleb is such a goofball.

This post is lame. Sorry. I'll give you a better one tomorrow.

March 13

Today was a boy day.

While I ran 9 miles this morning, Chris and Caleb had quality time. Then I came home, and they were obviously having such a good time that I had to let it continue. So, as a supreme sacrifice, I chose to lay on the couch and let Caleb have Daddy Time all day.
I only roused myself from the couch to document the fun.

I am so giving.

The boys like to roll around on the floor.

The only thing better than licking the cold glass door? Licking it when Daddy's on the other side.
(Look closely - you can see Caleb's reflection and giant smile!)

The boys got stinky after a long day of playing, so I threw them both in the tub.
