June 11

It rained today, and Jenny came over for dinner.

Those two events were incentive enough for us to dig up a handful of worms in the back yard and head up to the pond with Caleb's fishing pole.
Surprisingly, Caleb didn't even question the whole spearing-live-worms-with-a-hook thing. I expected him to be at least a little upset by it.

While the boys got situated, Jenny wandered off to look for frogs (she never has had much of an attention span...) and Daisy and I watched ducks land on the pond. I was delighted to hear Daisy say, "Kak! Kak!" at the ducks - her first attempt at the word "quack"! Yay, Daisy! She also says "chirp" now for birds.

Finally the boys were ready, and Chris cast Caleb's line into the pond. Caleb waited patiently, then began to reel it in.

Nothing.

They tried a few more times, but we only had ten minutes until dinner was ready and eventually we had to leave without having caught anything.
Really, that was probably a blessing - I don't know that Chris or I would have known what to do if he had caught something!
