April 30

Just so you know...

This happy face?

Is because I let him play with a box.

And my toes.

I may be a bad mom, but I'm a bad mom with one happy kid!

April 29

It was a busy, busy, busy day!
Luckily, Caleb was delightful and cooper-ative, despite the fact that I had to wake him up from two different naps to go places.

I tried to let him wake on his own, by fiddling with things on his changing table, by opening his curtains to let in the sunlight, by turning off  his noise machine... but each time, he stayed asleep. Finally, I just decided to get my camera and photograph how cute my sleeping baby is.

This one makes my heart happy.

Later, we finally got to play. Caleb's been working really hard at crawling lately. He's almost there! (It makes me geekily happy that my baby wants that book so badly.)

*sigh*
I
love that he loves books
love that he loves his daddy
love that his daddy loves reading to him
love love love

We are so blessed.

April 28

My baby will sleep well tonight. This lucky little man wore himself out at the pool today. He had a really good time splashing and kicking and trying to drink the pool water.

He also had a lot of fun playing with his friend Cooper.
(Isn't Coop adorable? You can tell his momma is camera-crazy too. Caleb's distracted by the water, but Cooper knows exactly what to look at. He's so cooper-ative!)

Later, Caleb, Chris and I visited my favorite restaurant ever - El Maguey.
I was feeling frisky, so I let Caleb try his first tortilla chip.
He liked it.

Then I let him try a lime.
I think he might have liked that, too.

April 27

Today Caleb had his first golf experience!

Chris wanted to try out a new set of irons, so we all went to the driving range.

Caleb had so much fun!

He's such a little encourager, too. Without any prompting, he started clapping his hands each time Chris hit the ball. It was amazing.
(Look closely. Caleb's clapping!)

Then he realized there was a stray ball near him, and he was no longer interested in Daddy's shot.

What fun!

April 26

So Caleb has a little green storage ottoman in his bedroom. It lives next to his crib, and we used to sit on it when Caleb was being fussy at night and we had to soothe him. (Not anymore, now that he sleeps through the night!)

Chris has recently discovered that Caleb fits perfectly in this ottoman.

Most of the time, Caleb loves a good game of "put the baby in the box".

Sometimes, he's not so sure.

All of the time, he's stinking adorable.

April 25

Caleb rode a schoolbus for the first time today.

Ha ha! Gotcha!
I know. I'm a dork. At least my baby's cute - otherwise, no one would associate with me!

Further proof that Saturdays and Sundays are the best days of the week:

I wish Monday would never come.

April 24

Today was City-Wide Garage Sale Day!
I got to spend the morning garage sale-ing with two of my favorite people (aside from Chris and Caleb, that is), while Caleb enjoyed some quality Daddy time.

When I returned, Caleb enjoyed the fruits of my labor.

This was one of my favorite purchases of the day - a Little People schoolbus.

Why the schoolbus? Now that it's warm outside, Caleb and I like to go out on the patio in the mornings and look at our garden and watch the big yellow schoolbus drive by.
(like this!)
(I took this photo a week or so ago...)
It's always an exciting time for us when the schoolbus drives by, despite the fact that it happens about 5 times a day.

Caleb was delighted to have his very own schoolbus.
(complete with crossing guard, two students, and a wheelchair)

April 23

How funny is it that little boys naturally know what to do with toy cars? It must be written in their DNA. Today Caleb showed me he knows exactly how to make his toy car "drive".

Later, he went to the airport for the first time with Chris and Grandad and Grandmother to visit a family friend who was passing through town. Unfortunately, I had to stay home and get a massage. (I know, quite the sacrifice. But someone had to do it!)
Chris brought home this great photo of his dad and Caleb.

This just makes me laugh.

April 22

Should I tell him that since he doesn't have any teeth, a toothbrush isn't really necessary?

Nah. Toothbrush = best toy ever.

April 21

Don't let this sweet face fool you.

This child was a stinker today.

Naps? No thank you. I got one 55-minute nap and one 30-minute nap out of him. ALL DAY LONG.

That means tired baby, and tired mama. And when we get tired, we get fussy. Both of us.

Now I'm having a margarita and watching American Idol, guilt-free. I've earned it.

April 20

Have I mentioned that we're enjoying this warm weather?
Or that Caleb loves to be outside?

Nope. I don't think I've mentioned it at all over the past few months.

Because we're enjoying  the warm weather and Caleb LOVES to be outside.
Today Chris met us at a nearby park on his way home from work. We had so much fun!
(This is what happens when Daddy pushes the swing.)

Daddy is way more fun than Mommy on the playground.

Love my boys!

We played with grass and threw rocks in the pond.

What a fun day!

April 19

Today was just a normal day.

I like normal days.

These are things we do on normal days:

My sweet little bug enjoyed some outdoor time.

Caleb entertained himself while Mommy did laundry.

Daddy called on his way home from work.

However, today was the first day that Caleb was actually engaged in Daddy's phone call.
Usually Chris will talk to Caleb, and Caleb will be more concerned with getting the phone in his mouth.
Today, the phone still ended up in his mouth. But before that happened, Caleb spent quite a while (for a 9-month-old) looking at the phone when Chris talked. And when Chris said, "It's da-da!", Caleb responded, "dadadadadada!"

I think it counts as Caleb's first phone conversation!

April 18

Today we celebrate a much-revered rite of passage:

Caleb's first Cardinals Baseball game.

Caleb is apparently quite the Cardinals fan. Though we kept him up an hour past his bedtime, he was cheerful and pleasant the whole time!

Luckily, the weather was gorgeous and the whole fam was there to entertain him. Caleb had a great time playing with his Aunts Emily and Jenny, his cousin Ryan, and his Grandma and Grandpa. Perhaps that had something to do with his cheerfulness.

We decided not to press our luck and left after the 4th inning. The Cards must have respected that; they went on to win 5-3. Thanks, guys!

April 17

One of the highlights of every day happens around 7:35 pm, when Chris and Caleb roll around on the floor.

I can't imagine what could be more fun for our "active" baby.

Or for Chris.

Good rolling = good bathtime.

Good bathtime = happy Mommy.

April 16

Things I didn't mention in yesterday's post:
1. I had to rush Caleb to the doctor yesterday because his whole bottom was covered in hives. It was horrifying, but everything is ok and he was fine the whole time. One dose of Benadryl fixed everything.
2. I have the best mom ever, who watched Caleb last night so Chris and I could go out
3.  because we had tickets to see a live taping of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!" (It's a news quiz show on NPR.) It was awesome.

I neglected to mention all of yesterday's chaos because by the time we got home from the show, it was seriously late and I was seriously worn out from all of the craziness of the day.

Also yesterday, we noticed that Caleb is trying really hard to pull up. He's not there yet, but now we're seeing a lot of this:
That would be a guilty/scared look on his face as he nearly tips over the chair because he's trying to pull up on it.

He's keeping me on my toes, but I love this age!

April 15

Caleb is already learning how to wrap Grandma around his chubby little finger...

April 14

Apparently, we are in the baby-playing-outside-on-a-blanket period. Just so you know.

I realize this isn't the best photo, but I love the fact that Caleb is holding his pinwheel in one hand and a bag of Cheerios in the other. I think if he had just these two things, he could be happy for a long time.
A VERY long time.

April 13

Today was another lovely day that practically required our presence outdoors.

We started by doing some yardwork. The one difference from days past?
In addition to setting toys on Caleb's blanket, I also happened to bring a bag of his favorite snack - Gerber yogurt melts. I just thought he might like them later, so I set them on the corner of the blanket.

In no way did I anticipate that Caleb would see the bag, know what was inside, and find a way to move his non-crawling body from a sitting position on one end of the blanket to a prone position on the opposite end of the blanket - all in the span of approximately 5 seconds.

Since I didn't anticipate it, I didn't capture the beginning. But this is what the end result looked like:

Don't you think he looks a little bit posessive of those melts?

Later we met up with Aunt Jenny for a walk.
Caleb clearly adores Jenny.
(or thinks she's insane. Whatever.)

April 12

Today was a big day for two reasons.

1. Cardinals Home Opener!
2. We got dirt for our future vegetable garden!

This photo commemorates both:

Caleb was really impressed with both the dump truck that delivered the dirt and the dirt itself. Both boys are decked out in their Cardinals red!

The dirt is kind of clumpy. I hope it produces good veggies!

Caleb has a really good time hanging out on the patio. He prefers sitting directly on the concrete vs. sitting on a blanket. I think it's because there are more inappropriate playthings on the concrete than on a blanket (bugs, dirt, grass, leaves... boy things.)

Sometimes I try to distract him with toys.

Sometimes it works.

Go Cards!

April 11

After being my companion for months of training, Caleb was finally able to cheer me on at my half marathon today.
Of course, he wasn't there alone - his daddy and my parents were there, too.

I loved the sign my boys made for me!

Both Caleb and the weather cooperated wonderfully for the race. My mom kept remarking what a good baby he is. What mommy doesn't want to hear that?

My one major disappointment was that Caleb wasn't there at the finish line. After training with him for so long, I really wanted him to be there, but he was napping in the car with my mom. So unfortunately, no finish line photos for Caleb.

But we do have a post-race Cracker Barrel photo...

I'm so glad it's all over!
