July 20

Today Amber and two of her five children came over bright and early for a play date. We were afraid it was going to be obnoxiously hot, so we stayed at my house instead of venturing out to a park. It ended up being a good choice, because not long after they arrived, the rain started falling. We all went out on the porch to watch the rain, and one thing led to another, and soon this happened:
It was THE. CUTEST. THING. EVER.

He was curious at first, and soon he loved it!

Look at him go! It still surprises me that Eli is officially a walker.

Splashing in the puddles!

I don't remember why Daisy wasn't in any of these pictures, but she definitely participated in the rain splashing. The kids were all really interested in the gutter on the side of the road. We live at the bottom of a hill, right before the storm sewer, so rainstorms create gushing rivers on the side of the road.

I'm not sure if Caleb and Edie were fishing, but I can tell you that Edie saw Caleb with a stick and immediately ran to find one of her own. Girl knows a good thing when she sees it!

Meanwhile, Eli followed Gussie up and down the sidewalk.

Look at how Eli is watching Gussie splash. You can almost see the wheels turning in his head as he figures out how to make big splashes.

He is so pleased with himself!

Princess Lily, naked Edie, and swimsuit-clad Caleb. I love these kids.

After our friends left, the kids played happily with Lily's new birthday toys.
This little house with doorbells and locking doors is a particular favorite for all four kids.

Lily was pretending to sleep with her new babies here; she even asked me to go get her pinky out of her room so that she could snuggle them. Funny girl!
