July 3

Oops - I forgot to blog for a couple of days there. Hope no one thought I was busy having a baby, because I definitely wasn't. I saw the midwife yesterday, and Baby Rainbow is still happily cooking away. I feel way too good to be having a baby anytime soon, so my guess is that Baby won't come out for at least a week, if not longer.

But Chris and I were smart, and did most of what we wanted to do in June. Now that it's July, the pace of life is much slower and unscheduled. I have the luxury of puttering around the house with the kids, because everything's taken care of, and we have no plans.

This morning, we played outside while breakfast baked. (We had this yummy honey-sweetened custard. What a special treat!)
Several weeks ago (perhaps a month ago?) my mom came over and we found a little brown toad in this mulch bed. Caleb and Daisy were fascinated, and Caleb has been looking for that toad ever since. This morning, he built a little home for the toad. You can see it in the bottom-right corner of the picture above. Sadly, there was no toad (we call him "Hop-Toad") to immediately inhabit the home, but Caleb was still very proud of his work.
Later, we played with the other Caleb, who had lots of fun riding his new bike. The Calebs rode through a big mud puddle together, so we had an impromptu bike wash.

After naps, Caleb and Daisy decided to decorate their sparkling-clean bicycles for the 4th of July.
Caleb's bike had blue stars taped to it, blue ribbon wrapped around the handlebars, a red and silver pinwheel attached to the handlebars, and a red balloon tied to one handle. He was so excited!

Zoom! Look at how fast he goes! Caleb was especially excited by the way the pinwheel spun as he rode. (Also, he has clearly outgrown his balance bike. Good thing he has a birthday coming up in a few days...)

Daisy's bike also had blue stars, a pinwheel, and a balloon. She also had some curly red ribbon on her handlebars.

Off they go!
