We woke the kids up at 1:30 and loaded them into the van. Road trip rules are that we don't turn the DVD players on until after sunrise and breakfast, in the hopes that the children will sleep.
They didn't.
Maybe Caleb and Daisy did, a little, but Eli and Lily definitely didn't.
We accidentally stopped for breakfast at the same awful McDonald's on the southern outskirts of Nashville that we stopped at last year. Note to self: don't do that again.
On and on we drove. Lunch was near Atlanta, and dinner was somewhere in Florida. About an hour from Maggie's house, we made a pit stop at a really nice Flying J travel plaza to buy Children's Motrin for Daisy. She had been complaining of a headache yesterday, but I thought she was just being dramatic. It turned out the girl had a raging sinus headache that was heralding the arrival of a wicked cold. The medicine got her through.
At 9:30 pm (8:30 our time), we finally arrived. It took us nearly 19 hours to accomplish 15 and a half hours of driving. (Thanks, kids.)
But we made it, and this was how we ended our night:
Snuggles and books on Maggie's couch.
We rented a crib for Eli from a great baby gear place, and all four kids were in the same room. The big three slept in a king size bed together, and Eli's crib was right next to it. Chris and I had our own bedroom - a vacation first for us, at least since having babies! Our poor kiddos were so exhausted that they immediately fell into a blissful sleep, likely dreaming of seeing the ocean tomorrow.
Hello, Florida!
what a pretty house this is!
