May 10

It's hard for me to comprehend this, given that I am the proud mama of the cutest boy ever born.
But someone doesn't like my baby.
That someone? Our cat, Tigerlily.

It's really a very difficult situation, because we love Tigerlily so much. However, she's obviously the one in the wrong. At first, we thought that maybe her strong feelings toward Caleb were just because he was a new addition to our family, and that gradually she'd warm up.

10 months later, she still has an active dislike for him. And it's getting to the point that we can't hide it from him; Caleb is starting to notice.

Saturday, Caleb tried to chase after the cat for the first time. How do we explain to him that she doesn't like him?

Because he? REALLY likes her.

At some point, he's going to understand that most cats say "meow", not "HISSSS". At some point, he'll realize that his beloved kitty is not a friendly kitty. And I think that point is coming soon.

Poor Caleb.

(BTW, I now have 3 claw marks in my left wrist from trying to hold Tigerlily near Caleb for this long. It hurts.)

Hmmm... do I write about Mother's Day, or Caleb's 10-month birthday?
Since this is technically Caleb's blog (it is One Caleb a Day, after all), I guess I should write about Caleb's 10-month birthday.

I can't believe my little man is so old! In a mere two months, he'll be a year old!
I have to admit... I love this age. He is so much fun right now!

At 10 months old, Caleb weighs about 19 pounds and is about 30 inches long.
He sleeps from 8 pm to 6:30 am, but he's just starting to realize this isn't long enough, so he's started going back to sleep after eating at 6:30.
He takes 2 hour and a half naps each day.
He still loves to nurse. His favorite food aside from Mommy's milk? Anything he can feed himself. Yogurt melts are a particular favorite.
He says "hat". Has no idea what it means, but he says it.
I'm pretty sure he knows "book" and "ball". Possibly "woof".

Things I love about Caleb at 10 months:
the way he twirls his hair when he's falling asleep
how he "sings" along as I sing "The Wheels on the Bus"
the way he mimics the words we say
his big, open-mouthed kisses!
his new skill - waving bye-bye!
the way he scoots sideways instead of crawling
the fact that he loves books

Happy Mother's Day to me!

May 8

I confess:
I did not take a single picture of Caleb today.
However, Chris did. So I'm going to mooch off of his adventures for today, if you don't mind.

Because it would be too chaotic to see both of our moms on Mother's Day and make time for me, Chris and I decided that we needed to claim this Mother's Day for our new little family. So instead of spending tomorrow with our moms, we chose to each take our mom on special dates, just mom, child, and Caleb on a different day. Chris took his mom on a date to the Butterfly House today.

It looks like they had a lot of fun! It was a chilly, windy day, but they started off at the playground for a few good swings.

Caleb seemed to enjoy it!

Then, the Butterfly House!

I'm not sure which Caleb enjoyed more: the butterflies, or his Grandmother.

Happy Mother's Day, Gayle!

Fun Friday!

Today Caleb and I went to the zoo with Sara, Carter, and Cooper. Aside from the 8.3 trillion schoolchildren there on fieldtrips, it was great fun.

Caleb was quite contemplative as we began our visit. (Or tired. Whatever.)

He's still not quite interested in the animals yet.

Sara and her boys had fun on the carousel!

Later, Jenny came over for a visit.

What a fun day!

Activities Caleb enjoys right now:

Opening cabinets to discover the treasures they contain. (He spent a good 5 minutes just pushing down the toaster lever.)

Opening drawers to discover the treasure they contain. (Oh! You caught me!)

Nope, not crawling. (Fooled ya!) Scooting.

Biting Daddy's nose. (You think it's a kiss, but it's not! Good thing there are no teeth in there!)

Happy baby!

May 5

Caleb was so excited to celebrate Grandpa's birthday today! We had beautiful weather for our family fiesta on the deck, and Jenny had fun feeding Caleb some pond scum. (Or mixed spring vegetables. Whatever.)

(I wish I could take credit for this awesome photo, but Chris took it. He's really good!)

Then, Caleb got to help Grandpa blow out the candles on his birthday pie.

Happy birthday, Grandpa!

Playtime on the patio

He LOVES the glider!

Daddy is so much fun!

Patting Daddy's chest and proudly sporting his first Cards cap.

(Caleb said "Hat" today! Really! Over and Over! I have witnesses! It was so cool!)

May 3

Today, my poor little man had a fever. It was only 99, but that's noticeable for him.

But despite the fever, he was in good spirits, and this evening I found myself gazing out the back door with a big smile on my face as I watched my boys roll around on the patio.

I sighed and whispered up a little prayer of thanksgiving for
a healthy baby
a wonderful husband
peals of laughter (both baby and husband)
sunshine
dinner in the oven
clean kitchen floors

This is how life is supposed to be.
(thoroughly enjoying a biter biscuit)

(one for the baby book - Caleb's first Cheez-it!)

Things Caleb did today:
skipped church to take a really good nap
played with Daddy
shopped at Target with Mommy
ate a BIG lunch
napped again
perused the produce at Trader Joe's
tried out an anti-gravity chair while riding in the sling on Mommy
ate beans and pasta and
charmed everyone at Olive Garden

Things Caleb didn't do today:
allow any pictures but this one (taken right before bathtime - note the food all over his face)

Sorry I don't have anything more spectacular, but not that sorry. It was a nice day.

Today's title?
Close Encounters with Not-So-Wild Life

We met up with our friends Chris and Amber (Chris is the one responsible for fueling my camera addiction) at the Butterfly House today for a picnic and some butterflies. It was amazing.

First, Caleb met some ducklings!
(Please note MamaDuck in the background, watching over her babies!)

Then, Caleb met some creepy bugs.
(Look in the upper left. That's a bug. Creepy, no?)

Then, THEN, Caleb finally got to meet the butterflies. Thousands of them!
He loved it.

And then he took a 3-hour nap.

Hooray for butterflies!
